In recent years, unfavorable trends have been observed in the tourism sector of the Russian regions - the service personnel is decreasing, and the number of tourist industry enterprises and tourists is increasing. The purpose of the study was to verify the problem of staffing in the tourism sector of the regions of the Baikal region and to justify the possible directions for its solution. The results of the study confirm the existence of the problem of lack of personnel in the tourist sphere of the Baikal regions. The authors substantiated that one of the causes of the problem of staff shortage is the discrepancy between the qualities of applicants and the requirements of employers. The study revealed a number of inconsistencies in the relationship "employer-applicant" in the tourist sphere of the Baikal region. Firstly, the high requirements of employers to applicants with low wages. Secondly, the predominant position of candidates with higher education compared to candidates with secondary education. On the basis of the data obtained by the authors, possible directions for solving the problem of staffing have been proposed.
