The article is devoted to the issues of the classification of population’s income sources. The sources of population’s income are determined by their overall volume and by the factors affecting them. In the article on the basis of the current classification of the population’s income sources used by national statistics the author draws conclusion about the importance of the population’s employment, insufficient development of entrepreneurial initiative and significant size of shadow economy. However, based on the existing classification the author suggests another classification of the population’s income sources. The key group of income sources of this classification is the income from the current activities, which involves labor remuneration and entrepreneurial income. The author also identifies income from the past activities (savings), support from the society, and income from unidentified sources. The author points out the need to stimulate the increase in the income from the first sources group, however, stressing that within the group, the structure of income by sources does not play a fundamental role for socio-economic development. The author also notes the dependence of social payments on the income from current activities and undesirability of disproportional growth of their share within the population’s income structure.
