The food industry is a socially significant component of the food complex of the region. It has a significant impact on the quality and standard of living of the population. In the article we mark that the current methodological mechanism and economic and mathematical tools do not allow to fully appreciate the quality and effectiveness of structural changes in the region's food industry. We offer the author's method for quantitative assessment of value and direction of structural changes in the food industry. In this method we propose indicators of the quality of structural changes and the integrated indicator as a weighted sum of structural changes in components of industrial structure of the food industry, taking into account their significance. We assess the quality of structural changes by the degree of their correspondence with the rationality of structural changes in the region's food industry. Methodological approbation on the example of the food industry of Primorsky Krai allowed drawing informative conclusions about the value and quality of structural changes in the region's food industry.
