This article gives results of the qualitative study based on interviews taken in eight four- and five-star hotels for the purpose to obtain a deeper understanding of the nature of innovations in the hospitality industry, to determine innovator managers, their characteristic features and their roles in implementation of novelties. They show not only principal differences between innovative and conservative managers but also their common features. The main directions for the use of innovations in the hospitality industry on the modern stage of development are disclosed. The study stresses out the significance of the employee's creative potential in the process of management and its development, the role of the hotel manager in the introduction of innovations is explained. Faults of the study done are determined and options for the further study are suggested.
