The article considers the economic essence and institutional basis of the educational cluster as a prospective form of knowledge production. It provides systematization of theoretical base of the cluster concept that allows to establish evolutionary transformation of economic processes researched. Taking into account the significance of higher education institutions in a the cluster, the article allocates one of clusters, that is, educational one.
