Abstract:

The paper advances a critical-polemical analysis of the conceptual, social and strategic aspects of the programs that aim to develop smart cities. We draw attention to the problem of the absence of a necessary link between technological and social components of urban modernization and the risk of deepening of social inequalities because of realization of the corresponding programs of development. The article recommends a better correlation of the smart city programs of development and robust social measures conceived on the basis of the just city politics and methodology that better accounts for the interests of the city inhabitants, including the underprivileged strata of the population.
