Abstract:

The article substantiates the relevance of the search for new approaches to the comparative analysis of the central and peripheral regions of the Russian Federation. The geostrategic nature of the border regions, whose contribution to the main socio-economic indicators of the country is quite high, is recognized. In a sense, the border regions should become a "locomotive" for the development of the national economy in the context of changing the priorities of international cooperation. The authors adapted the method of assessing the degree of concentration of economic activity to the problems of regional development and made a comparative analysis of the border and "internal" territories in terms of concentration of resources (number of employees, fixed assets, investments in fixed capital) and the results of operation (GRP, the volume of industrial output, exports and imports). It is proved that regional differentiation is more typical for border than for internal areas.
