The article deals with the aspects of "soft power" use in the process of interethnic relations formation. Special attention is paid to Russia's position on the world stage. The authors define the "soft power" term. The historical experience of different states is analyzed. The necessity of application of innovative tools of diplomacy is proved. Compares the use of "soft" and "hard power". The ways to improve the mechanism of soft power in specific conditions of time and place are offered. Emphasis is placed on the relationship of "soft power" and public diplomacy in the Russian Federation.
