Abstract:

This article highlights the features of the formation of the emotional I-image of primary school age children with mental retardation, as part of one of the components of the I-concept. The relevance of its study is shown. The importance of the development of emotional image-I and the consequences of its distorted development are considered. The diagnostic techniques are given to reveal the level of development, components of the emotional image, such as self-esteem, level of claims and aggressiveness. The results of empirical research are considered and analyzed. The levels of development of self-esteem, claims and aggressiveness are determined. It is shown that the majority of respondents ' levels of self-esteem and claims are formed inadequately, and the severity of aggressiveness is unreasonably overstated. Recommendations for their correction are given.

Highlights:

1. I-concept develops throughout a person's life and incorporates all that was most significant in each of the periods of personal formation.
2. Mentally retarded persons have increased suggestibility.
3. Mentally retarded younger students are characterized by symptoms of impaired development of the emotional I-image.
4. The basis of correctional and developmental activities should be training on the development of self-esteem and the level of claims.
