This article presents a program of research on the processes of institutionalization of communicative and life practices in modern societies. The authors propose to perceive institutionalization as the process and result of regulatory regulation of communications and motivations of the human's lifeworld. The key thesis in the process of institution research and institutional designing is to distinguish the three levels of joint livelihoods of people: motivational, communicative and organizational. The initial for the institutionalization is the process of creating norms among people, which is a mandatory element of the joint livelihoods. In archaic and traditional societies, the norm has the form of a ritual. If the normative plan of activity moves away from the communicative one, it acquires an institutional (organizational) form. Following Yu. Habermas, the main contradiction of the epoch is seen in the discrepancy between the system (the normative organization of society) and the human lifeworld. This understanding of the institution is criticized when formal and informal rules are combined in the content of the concept. The proposed principle of differentiation of the levels of joint life activity makes it possible to investigate what kind of transformations human motivations and rules of living communication undergo when they reach the level of the normative organization of society. The study of these transformations constitutes the main content of the research program.
