The article focuses on the modern labor regulation as a practical activity, field of science and social phenomenon. It is for the first time when the essence of labor regulation is fully considered: both from the economic-organizing and managerial viewpoints and from the legal, technical, technological and socio-psychological viewpoints. We paid particular attention to general and special functions of labor regulation in respect of the modern economy and society. Among the functions of labor regulation, we headlined information, communication, value-orienting, legal, social, administrative, motivation, integrative, epistemological, engineering and ecological functions.
Highlights:
1. From economic-organizing viewpoint labor regulation establishes the borders of economic independence of labor agents in business systems.
2. From technical and technological viewpoint the labor regulation reflects the relationship between industrial, technological and labor processes.
3. From a management viewpoint the labor regulation comes to streamlining of labor agents’ actions on the basis of management system interests.
4. The labor regulation as a field of science can be understood as the theory of objective place, role and functions of standards as the modern business systems’ key elements and regulators of social and labor relations.
5. We regard information, communication and value-orienting functions of labor regulation as the general functions of labor regulation.
