Using data of USSR censuses of 1970, 1979, 1989 and Russian censuses of 2002 and 2010 we justify methodological approaches to the study of forms and methods of spatial changes in population distribution combined with the assessment of the existing disproportions in social and economic development of the territories. We assess migration attractiveness of the regions over a long time period and classification of regions on this basis. We consider and measure the impact of the main factors and causes of the dominant directions of migration flows in the Russian Federation.
