The goal of the article is to identify psychological characteristics of students prone to addictive behavior and justify preventive work at university. The design lies in the fact that the set goals are achieved through a three-stage study, during the application of which we identify the groups of conditionally addictive and non-addictive students (with no signs of addictions) and their psychological characteristics. We use questionnaires by Smirnova A.V., diagnostic questionnaire "Determination of inclination to deviant behavior" by Orel A.N., questionnaire "Test of vitality" by D.A. Leontief, "Scale of optimism and activity" by Vodopyanova N., Stein M., "Psychological well-being in the person" by Riff K., "Coping mechanisms" by Haime E., a technique for studying meaningful orientations by Leontiev D.A.. We apply the activity approach that reveals human connection with social environment that affects the formation of a person as a personality (by Vygotsky, D.A. Leontief). The article is a multidisciplinary study at the interface of age, social psychology and management. The results show that one third of students of university's humanitarian departments are prone to addictive behavior and manifest its signs; we reveal the personality’s psychological structure of a conditionally addictive student. The finding suggests the rationale for organizing preventative work at university. In subsequent studies, it is necessary to determine the age, gender characteristics of students’ addictive behavior, dependance on educational paths and development dynamics of addictions. For university management we give recommendations on preventive work with conditionally addictive students. The article is significant in the application of the obtained results, namely, preventive work with students should be carried on regularly and consistently.
