The article analyzes the experience of labor migration control in the UK as a viable template for the Russian Federation. We consider recent twenty-five-year history of the issue including the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme. Then we discuss the current state of issues, namely, which agencies currently register migrants, what methods they use for this purpose, and what it takes to become a labor migrant in the United Kingdom. We show how The Labour Force Survey functions and describe the structure of the Five Tier Points-Based Immigration System. The conclusion sums up the information about the impact of migration control on the efficiency of attracting and using foreign labor force on the national labor market and on the management of migration processes.

•there is no unified method for assessing labor migration in the world, since the types of contracts and the time limits for the stay of migrants differ depending on the specific states
•the idea of introducing the so-called taxation on skills (skillslevy) is to focus British employers on the training of their citizens and reduce the number of migrant workers
•today in the UK, foreign workers account for 8% of all employed due to strict requirements for migrants
•peculiarities of labor migration control in the UK are that they are rigidly systematized according to the categories of migrants, the purposes of entry, have a certain scope that do not allow you to enter the labor market not in demand on the labor market
•classification of working visas like the FiveTierVisaSystem, and for visa-free countries creation of an analogues of work visas, could have a regulatory effect on the flows of visitors to Russia, since by type of work visa it would be clear what a migrant is engaged in
