The article describes the impact of migration and demographic processes on the labor market of the Republic of Karelia. We analyze the formation of structural asymmetry in the field of employment. The purpose of the study is to analyze the changes in the labor market in the Republic of Karelia and to assess the impact of the demographic crisis and migration on these processes. As a result, we found the tendency of growth of the proportion of pensioners in labor force structure of the region. We revealed the connection between this tendency and migration and demographic crisis. We revealed the growth of the share of pensioners in the labor market. We analyze the problem of gender inequality in the labor market. We made a conclusion about inefficient use of women's labor potential because of gender segregation and gender discrimination.

• The age asymmetry in the labor market in Republic of Karelia is formed under the influence of natural population decline and migration
• The population over working age continues to work and by that compensates the deficit of youth at the labor market.
• Gender asymmetry in the labor market is formed as a result of historically established informal rules and physiological, psychological gender characteristics
• Gender asymmetry in the labor market may be a barrier for realization of the human capital of different persons and groups of population.
