Abstract:

The article shows the reason for the interest of a number of states to the water area of the river in order to develop the international economic cooperation. We point out the main countries which are interested in the subregion and pay attention not only to the presence in the area aimed at promotion of long-run economic impact. The Mekong is a key river artery and water system of the peninsula, due to which are developing production and industries, which involve millions of inhabitants of Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and China. Nevertheless the major investment projects of Beijing and Indochina countries cause a significant reduction of resources of the river due to the collapse of the integrity of the ecological system of the water area. The consequences affect millions of people and create the prerequisites for disasters, which will be difficult to overcome in the foreseeable future (twenty years). Changes in interests in the Mekong River region create hotbeds of tension in its subregions and sectors. Such instability on the platform of interests of the powers influences the architecture of regional economic relations in 2000-2010.
