Abstract:

Active implementation of the competence approach in a two-tier system of domestic higher education, humanization, digitalization and realization of the concept of open science substantiate the demand for modernization of existing systems for creation, storage and dissemination of electronic educational editions. This paper shows the results of sociological research on materials semi-structured interviews with 42 employees of University publishing houses in Russia. It provides information on the latest projects in the field of electronic book publishing on the basis of universities and commercial publishers provided brief statistics on the segment academic electronic publishing and proposes scenarios for the development of electronic publishing for higher education.


Highlights:

• There is an issue of creating a single electronic library system for different specialties nationwide based on cooperation of the higher education institutions with each other within their profile orientation
• Digitalization of the publishing repertoire of university publishers entering the phase of active growth, while commercial publishers show slightly less interest in e-book publishing
• The number of published editions and combined circulation figures in the 2016 year in Russia is leading it training literature
• The number of publishing series and projects in the commercial segment for higher education is much lower than for pre-school, elementary, middle, secondary and high school
• The work of authors in Russian publishing practices are not high in the universities, the management prefers the bulk written by professors and teachers editions to qualify as their work duties
• University publishers are in a unique position in the segment of electronic publishing, they play a leading role in the implementation of new concepts of continuing education, open science, e-learning and the principle of scientific diversity
