Abstract:

We may see a comparative characteristic of children left without parental care in the studies of domestic and western psychologists. The general physical and mental development of children raised without parental care differs from the development of children of the same age raised in families. Children raised without parental care have a slow mental development, and we may also name a number of negative characteristics, such as a low level of intellectual development, meagre emotional sphere and imagination, late formation of skills of self-regulation and proper behavior. The behavior of these children is characterized by irritability, tantrums, aggression, exaggerated reaction to events and relationships, touchiness, provoking conflicts with children of the same age and lack of communication skills.

Highlights:

• Replacement of a family with a life in the institution has the most negative impact on a child during the first seven years of his life
• 70% of teenagers from orphanages experience loneliness
• As a rule, orphans are not satisfied with their independent life and themselves
