Providing the population of the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous area - Yugra with quality food is one of the priorities of the development of the region. Domestic agriculture development under adverse environmental conditions in the region calls for studying the forms of production which have potential for development under these conditions. One of the promising forms of agriculture is a deer farming. We evaluated the development potential of venison production in the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous area - Yugra using methods of assessment the internal resources (DRC). The application of the methods shows that, on the whole, the venison production has the potential for development in the region, but it is quite sensitive to changes in external and internal factors.
