The authors discuss the issues of the development and problems of functioning of state corporations in modern Russian economy. The analysis of the main functions and classification of state corporations have been presented. It has been concluded that creation of state corporations is part of the state industrial policy the main goal of which is innovational transformation of by means redistribution of investment resources and their allocation in the most important spheres. It has been revealed that the potential of state corporations allows to consider them from the position of institutional basis of technological modernization of manufacturing industry. The authors pay attention to the activities of state industrial corporations at the present stage in the conditions of crisis. An alternative model of institutional transformation of state corporations has been developed.
