Economic processes in the countries of «catching-up development» in the second half of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century, were not unidirectional. Unprecedented in nature and scope they covered a broad range of fields, connecting them together into a coherent economic organism, an important place of which belonged to the military-industrial sector. In this article the multiplier effect of development of military - industrial sector on the pace of modernization of their national economies is analyzed. It is based on the study of the economic systems of Germany, Japan and Russia, and linked with military reforms. This study can be useful to students, graduate students and teachers of economic specialties.
