This article discusses one of the key demographic concerns of today, a rapid aging of the population that presents real threat to the fiscal systems of both developed and emerging countries with another collapse. The problem of an aging population in Russia is aggravated by the current crisis of its economy and extremely weak labor market for the elderly. The authors reveals the position of Russian within the BRICS and compared with the EU countries and make the case for the full development of the intellectual potential of older people, this valuable and productive resource. To do so, it is necessary to upgrade the existing programs of their state support and change the current practices in the labor market oriented exclusively at the younger generation. The conclusions of the articles may be useful to officials – the developers of various projects aimed at returning the most active part of the elderly in social production.
