In today’s world creation of an effective national innovation system is a strategic task addressing of which ensures stable economic growth and competitiveness of the national economy. The authors of this article analyze the level of innovation development and competitiveness of the national economy in the global economic space. They studied the main obstacles to the effective development of innovative processes in the country and proposed solutions involving the active participation of the state. The practical significance of the findings of the study lies in the fact that they can be used by ministries and agencies involved in analysis and forecasting of innovative processes in the economy.
