The article describes the implementation of project management in the public administration system. It presents the obstacles often encountered in public administration which can be avoided by means of project management. It lists the pros and cons of using project management in public administration. It describes the experience of application of project management in executive authorities of the Perm region.

► the main thing is not the sustainability of a public institution or a project, but continuity related to the actions and changes due to changes in internal and external conditions
► one of the weaknesses of project management in the public sphere is the lack of interconnection between strategic and project management
► public officers do not pay enough attention to the risks
► lower administrative officials should be not only the executives, but participants in the decision-making processes
► operation of state structures should be evaluated by the final result of their work, not by the level of their activity
► the application of project approach will contribute to the transition to commercial companies management models, that is, a change of corporate culture and work style of public authorities
► dedicated managers can select and adapt project management models to a specific project
