The article provides detailed information on publication indicators used for creation of different international rankings of universities and research organizations; data sources and methods of calculation.Thr research paper also describes the specialized publishind activity rankings such as Leiden ranking, SciMAGO institutional ranking and Performance Ranking of World Universities (Taiwan ranking).It examines the possibility af relation between thr number of scientific journals, published in the certain country and indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, and the number of universities from this country, represented in universityrankings.A comparative analysis of Web of Science publications by universities with different ranking positions is performed from the point of view of magazines, in which the university staff publishes thr research results.This paper assumes the possible dependence of journal impact factor on the international authorship on the example of journals published in different countries, research fields and differenr years.Author provides the recommendations on university publication strategies leading to improving thr university's ranking.
