The article presents an overview of the scientific literature on the subject of improving the efficiency of agricultural lands use. The author has summarized the experimental data collected in the course of research works dedicated to studying the peculiarities of white clover development in the conditions of irrigation of the Moscow region’s nonchernozem zone in the supportive production area «Dubna» in 2012-2014.
Highlights:
► replenishment of the domestic food reserves, improvement of the quality and safety of the produced products are the integral components of the efficient livestock breeding development, the latter playing an important part in providing the population with the protein-containing food products
► production expertise and long-term observations have demonstrate that clover silage as a protein and vitamin-containing fodder is a perfect addition to the carbohydrate-rich corn silage and sugar beet
► perennial grasses used in field and meadow grass cultivation can play a significant role in the solution of the protein problem of the livestock-breeding food reserves
► the world experience in white clover cultivation proves that this crop is the source of protein, cheap biological nitrogen, this plant plays an important role in the disturbed soils restoration
► white clover cultivation is aimed at the increase of the lands agricultural productivity, at the provision of the livestock-breeding industry with the ecologically-clean domestic supplement feeds, which, in turn, will increase the availability and affordability of food products to the Russian consumers through growth of the production volumes of livestock products
