Food security is an integral part of the state's national security the main purpose of which is to support the food supply of the population on the level needed. The main issue of Russian food security is that it doesn't provide consumation of basic food products by its own citizens on the adequate level. A considerable amount of products is imported. For this reason, resolution of the problems of provision of the population with the domestically produced food is quite relevant. The performed research has allowed: to analyse main external and internal threats to food security; to give a comparative characteristic of the resourses used for some types of agricultural products; to appraise the influence of the international political situation on the internal food market. Measures taken by the government and the legislative authorities of the Russian Federation for the creation of conditions for development of our own food production are reviewed. Measures for effective agricultural production development in modern economic conditions are suggested.
