Abstract:

The article deals with the theoretical foundations for the administrative-territorial division (ATD) of the state, its levels and methods of formation. A number of basic requirements for a newly created ADT has been considered. Approaches to improving the ADT in the Russian Federation are analyzed. The author gives recommendations on the formation of enlarged regions based on the principle of economic expediency.
