This article deals with the problem of housing non-affordability for great masses of population. It contains an analysis of prices per square meter in the major cities of the Russian Federation and comparison of sales of apartments in Europe and Russia, depending on the number of rooms. A potential option to solve the problem using studio apartments is proposed. There is also an analysis of the main consumers for this type of housing. The basic positive and negative aspects of this sort of layout are determined, the economic feasibility of introduction of low-income housing into the mass market is shown.
