The aim of the study was to analyze and study the current state of the market infrastructure and competitiveness of the agricultural sector of the Russian economy. The results revealed that the slow process of innovation and formation of the market infrastructure in the agricultural sector was due to the presence of certain problems in this industry. These include: adverse demographic situation, high unemployment, rural poverty, continued decline in the quality of life in rural areas, the low level of household and housing conditions, etc. Based on the analysis and synthesis of the above-noted problems, the causes of their occurrence were determined. The basic conditions for creation and development of market structures that will enhance the competitiveness of the agricultural sector of our economy were developed. An efficient and competitive agricultural sector will be able to grant a new status to the agrarian economy of our country on the international level.
