The article identifies four major trends in the development of the automotive industry in the developing countries. First, large developing countries, such as China, India and Brazil, are large and growing automotive markets. Second, there is a medium size group of developing countries where it is expedient to build assembly plants, taking into account the sizes of markets. The third group of countries is located near the major automotive markets and supplies labor-intensive components to them. And finally, the fourth tendency is the formation of local national automotive companies with potential for world-wide competitiveness in developing countries.
