The article discusses the experience of forming innovative mechanical engineering cluster in the Orenburg region: the composition and structure of the participants, the industrial core of the cluster, substantiation of goals and objectives, infrastructure rationale for cluster development. Forecasts are made for the organization of clusters in the region, specializing in other industries. It is noted that the increase in the clustering of the regional economy requires development of industrial policy and adjustment of the strategy of regional socio-economic development.
