Abstract:

The paper analyzes the functions of strategic management of regions' economic development. "Basic" and "binding" functions are delineated. Particular attention is paid to the functions of communication, motivation and managerial decision-making. Given that we are talking about the economy of the region, the focus is on the management adaptation to the changes of the environment. Depending on the degree of its perturbation, strategic decisions can be directed at mitigating the conflicts which have arisen or replacing the traditional management paradigm with the consideration of the regional economy as a system which is open and active with respect to the environment.
