Abstract:

The article indicates the need to overcome workers’ and employees’ alienation from company management and to develop the institution of industrial democracy via dissemination of the practice of establishing people’s companies (joint-stock companies with employees as shareholders) as a way of modernization and construction of socially oriented economy in this country. Social and economic aspects are discussed of how such companies function, and reasons why they are not widely spread in Russia are revealed.
