The article looks upon the place of universities within the system of market economy, i.e. their role in the economic and academic research training of specialists for the sake of accelerating economic growth and raising efficiency of the economy. In this connection, the writer emphasizes the importance of interrelations between academic research and practical knowledge, so that training shall correspond to the current level of science and technology.
