Abstract:

The article examines the possibility of applying the institutional approach to the theory and practice of regulating the shadow economy. It proves the objective complementarity between formal and informal institutions. The author reveals the limitations of the concept of opportunism in the analysis of the shadow behavior patterns and shows the realism of the theory of institutional traps.
