This article discusses the main aspects of the shadow economy with regard to the steel industry. A rough assessment of the extent of the informal sector is given; it identifies major forms of shadow economy, including the avoidance of taxation. The recommendations to reduce the informal sector in the steel industry to improve the economic situation in the country are given.
