The article describes the principles, characteristics and problems of forming tariffs for cargo transportation. The authors analyze the existing system of railway cargo transportation tariffs, its advantages and disadvantages, its impact on the development of the competition between the players of the transportation market. The authors draw a conclusion about the need to change the methodical approach to the tariff formation in the competitive and monopolistic segments of the railway transportation services market.
