Purpose: Development of theoretical bases and improvement of methods of a complex assessment of level of economic stability, approbation of a technique of calculation of an integral indicator of economic stability on an example of the agricultural enterprises of the Yaroslavl region and identification of reserves of its increase. Discussion: Economic sustainability is considered as an economic category expressing a balanced state of economic resources (or opportunities) and economic results of their use. The authors prove that the achievement of economic stability is possible with the optimal combination of a group of factors-economic, social and environmental-the functioning of which is carried out under the influence of market laws and agricultural policy of the state. It is noted that the condition of economic stability of economic entities is a system of criteria that reflect the stability of different aspects of their activities: production and economic, resource provision, sales, innovation, financial security. Results: a comprehensive assessment of the degree of sustainability of agricultural enterprises of the Yaroslavl region on the basis of an integral indicator. The development of agricultural enterprises in the region only in 2015-2017 was close to sustainable. Low economic stability of the agricultural enterprises of the Yaroslavl region is caused by weak resource availability of equipment, mineral fertilizers, forages, low profitability and profitability of production activity. The authors propose reserves to increase the level of economic stability of enterprises associated with increased attention of the state to support the subjects of the agricultural sector in legal and economic terms: state regulation of prices for agricultural products, the restoration of parity relations in the inter-sectoral exchange of products; increasing state support for innovation and capital investments; social reconstruction of rural settlements with the planned placement of production facilities on the territory of the region.
