Abstract:

The forecasts that the digital revolution will soon lead to the disappearance of the “paper-linked” occupations represented by millions of employees scare Russians more and more. Accountants are often included in the list of such occupations. The authors of the article controvert this statement. The article presents statistical data on the labor market in Russia that indicate an increase in the demand for accountants. The article also presents the results of the research conducted on the database of the job vacancies for accountants in Novosibirsk collected by the authors. The analysis of the requirements in vacancies shows that employers value not only labor market experience, but also the quality of accounting education. It is concluded that in the future we should expect changes in the accountants’ functions, but not the complete disappearance of the profession

• An analysis of the labor market situation in 2018-2019 revealed a rapid increase in the number of vacancies in the accounting.
• The article presents the results of a content analysis of resumes and vacancies for accountants posted on job search websites.
• The results of the vacancy analysis indicate that the most popular requirements for job-seekers are basic computer skills and the skills of recording and processing financial documentation.
• The authors revealed the high demand on specialists with professional knowledge in accounting and taxation
