The forecasts that the digital revolution will soon lead to the disappearance of the “paper-linked” occupations represented by millions of employees scare Russians more and more. Accountants are often included in the list of such occupations. The authors of the article controvert this statement. The article presents statistical data on the labor market in Russia that indicate an increase in the demand for accountants. The article also presents the results of the research conducted on the database of the job vacancies for accountants in Novosibirsk collected by the authors. The analysis of the requirements in vacancies shows that employers value not only labor market experience, but also the quality of accounting education. It is concluded that in the future we should expect changes in the accountants’ functions, but not the complete disappearance of the profession
