The object of study in the article are accommodation facilities located on the historical and cultural territory of the Zaonezhsky Peninsula. It is connected with research of prospects of expansion of tourist pilgrimage places and creation of conditions for further economic development of this territory. Based on the study of the recreational potential of the peninsula and the particularities of guest houses, the authors offer recommendations for owners of tourist accommodation facilities that will be relevant for this and for other rural areas in the Republic of Karelia. As a result of research the conclusion about economic expediency of development of these facilities for the solution of social and economic problems of the settlements located in rural areas is made. The presented material will be interesting not only for the administrations of rural councils, but also for individual entrepreneurs who want to do business in tourism. This is especially important, because there are no large enterprises in Zaonezhye, and the possibility of employment of residents is limited.
