It is proved that the effective development of the agrarian sector in Russia requires a change in the use of its resource base, the introduction of innovative high-performance resource-saving technologies in agricultural production, to ensure production of high quality and competitive at domestic and foreign markets for agricultural products and foodstuffs. The potential benefits of the digitalization of the agri-food sector is compelling, but this will require a major transformation of systems of agriculture, rural economies, communities and natural resource management. This is a difficult task and will require a systematic and holistic approach to achieve all the potential benefits.
