The article is devoted to the analysis of the main reasons of the formation of interregional differentiation in Russia, as well as the determinants of different dynamics and different vectors of spatial development. The article deals with the main subspaces that make up a single socio-economic space, and highlights the main axes of regionalization, polarizing the regional development of the country. Considering the factors contributing to the strengthening of differentiation and, thus, disintegration of the Russian regions, the authors come to the conclusion about the inevitability and necessity of an active state policy aimed at bringing together the levels of socio-economic development and quality of life in the regions.
