Abstract:

Labour productivity is one of the most important indicators of the efficiency of the use of production resources, which largely determines the level of economic development of the region and the degree of competitiveness of its economy. The purpose of this study is a comparative analysis of labour productivity in resource and non-resource regions of Russia. The comparison is made by absolute levels of labour productivity in the regions of Russia, calculated on the basis of real GRP and actual hours worked. The results show that the aggregate level of labour productivity in resource regions is higher than in non-resource ones. Significant differences in labour productivity levels within groups of resource and non-resource regions were also revealed. The analysis suggests that the structure of the economy has a significant impact on the regional level of labour productivity.
