Abstract:

The article reveals the place of Great Britain in the leading world indices and ratings. The presence of the country among the leading research countries of the world is emphasized. We study the experience of providing lightweight taxation for high-tech companies, co-financing and reimbursement of research and development costs, and exemption from patent income taxes proposed by the UK Government to finance the early stages of company development. It substantiates the main task of the country's innovation activity, embedded in the industrial strategy of the state. The characteristic of innovative institutions providing research funding to address environmental, social and economic issues on a global scale is given. It is considered how the globalization of research and the development of innovative activities create a competitive international environment. Presented are programs combining research with business in solving major industrial and social problems, government funding programs for the development of innovative products for government customers in the UK. The tasks that need to be solved to increase the competitiveness of the innovative economy of Russia and the UK are disclosed
