The article is devoted to the emergence of the modern European migration crisis, its main causes, the impact of its consequences on the socio-cultural, economic and political reality of France. At present migration policy in France has been strongly influenced by the legacy of colonialism of past centuries, as well as the attraction and use of foreign workers. During the last century, there has been a steady increase in migration, and it has had a strong impact on the character and traditions of French society. Migration policy has been successful from an economic point of view, but over the past three decades it has been increasingly perceived as the root of social problems.
