Abstract:

Socio-economic transformation of our society, the transition of the economy of our country to market relations, as well as changes in social relations, make it relevant to the formulation of the problem for researchers to conduct a full and comprehensive study of unemployment as a social phenomenon. The sociological research carried out by the authors revealed the peculiarities of the social portrait of the Russian unemployed. Among the latter, young people predominate (as employers tend to hire ready-made professionals with experience) with higher or incomplete higher education, which is important for career growth and the opportunity to realize their potential. The article also defines the social and economic consequences of unemployment both for unemployed individuals and for society as a whole.
