The economic security of the regions is becoming one of the key problems today, which requires the necessary work in this area. This is due to significant and growing differences in the level of technological and socio-economic development of the Russian regions. The article analyzes the level of economic security of the regions of the North-Western district on the basis of assessing the degree of relevance of threats and regional economic security. Using a number of techniques the authors propose to ensure stable economic regional development, to assess the economic security of the regions, during which it is possible to identify trends in further regional development based on the analysis of their strengths and weaknesses, as well as threats. As a result of the analysis, it is concluded that when planning socio-economic policy at the Federal level, it is necessary that the chosen policy reflects the activities in the regional context. Also in this article the works of various authors on approaches to the definition of thresholds were considered, threats to economic security, as well as indicators for its assessment were identified. On this basis, the authors calculated the weights of each threat. The authors identified the most problematic areas of socio-economic development of the region in the context of ensuring its economic security, which allows the system of economic security to concentrate forces and means on the most urgent and dangerous threats. The result of the work makes it possible to use the methodology of comparative rating assessment of Russian regions on the state of economic security as separate threats and by calculating the integral indicator.
