Abstract:

The relevance of the study is due to the spread of different groups of workers in the labor market, which are united in the "precariat", that is, a layer with "extremely unstable employment". What is its composition, what are its consequences for employees and for society? The article considers only one of the precariat groups, namely freelancers. According to many criteria, it is a fairly successful group in the labor market, its many social needs are met, although it is vulnerable to the lack of a social package, employer fraud, etc. The article compares two groups: freelancers and non-freelancers that "try on" the this format of employment. On the basis of the initiative of a sociological research the authors conclude that the success of the group attributable to precariat, due to the high level of education, professionalism, organization, ability to work alone. Non-freelancers to a lesser degree possess these qualities, so among them less than half of committed freelance. In any case, any groups included in the precariat need to study and organize institutional mutual assistance (in professional organizations and communities), as well as state assistance in regulating labor relations and monitoring the implementation of obligations by employers.
