Wooden housing construction is in demand in many countries of the world, where its share in the total volume of low-rise construction is more than 80%, whereas in Russia this figure is only 12%. The housing sphere is considered not only as an indicator of the welfare of society, but constitutes its historical and cultural basis. Wooden housing is a difficult sub-industry, as it is interconnected with the forestry, forest industry and construction industries. The article deals with the problems of a legislative, social, technological, economic nature that impede the development of wooden construction. The analysis of the legislative framework in the field of forestry in the issue of granting preferential wood for personal construction to citizens is given. The reasons constraining individual housing development are revealed. Characterized by log and log technology, which are justified from the standpoint of resource saving and economic efficiency. The necessity of further development of wooden housing construction as a factor in the sustenance of society, the preservation of territories, history, culture and ecological environment is substantiated. Suggestions have been made to optimize the problematic issues in the field of wooden housing
